Voted Track of the Year at Gilles Peterson’s 2003 Worldwide awards, RSL’s “Wesley Music” was an instant anthem on its release, combining a jazzy sensibility with heavy percussion, catchy brass riffs, and a building, hands-in-the-air chorus hook. The Manchester, UK-based band first released the single on their own label, but as the tune took off it was quickly released in the U.S. by Giant Step Records, long a pipeline for the freshest British new music. Most Excellent Unlimited has collaborated with Giant Step Records for this exclusive re-release to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the original record. The A side swaps out the original mix with a never-released Danny Krivit “Part 1” mix, a slightly more extended and direct to-the-point punch of Latin percussion and chants. The B side features Krivit’s “Part 2” mix that lets the tune unfold in all its building-anticipation glory, gradually elevating to a thunderous pinnacle of an almost spiritual nature.

1 december 1944, Thiaroye military camp, right outside of Dakar, Senegal. 1600 French soldiers of West African origin (Benin, Mali, Ivory Coast, Tchad, Senegal , Gabon, Togo etc.) have been quickly evacuated by the French Army during what was subsequentially called the ‘whitening of the colonial troops’ that happened before the armistice signature. The soldiers are awaiting to be paid for their war effort. Things go sideways, protests erupt, and the French military staff decides to open fire. The official number of casualties is 35, although various sources claim several hundred people died on that fatal day. Since then, several artists have grasped that difficult topic, screaming for recognition and reparation. Such is the case with a young Senegalese musician and singer named Maxidilick Adioa, with his very first single ever released, ‘Toubab Bile’, in 1987. At that time, Adioa had been living in France for a few years. He was considered a master percussionist, playing, recording and touring alongside the great Ivorian artist Alpha Blondy. He had just written a beautiful tune, ‘Nao’, for Aminata Fall, one of the biggest actress and singers in Senegal. It seemed like a good time to launch his solo career. Toubab Bilé remains Adioa’s biggest hit to this day, and one of the best African reggae tune ever recorded. Adioa ended up signing an album deal with Chris Blackwell’s Island records and toured the world endlessly during the following years. In 2012, François Hollande was the first French President to officially mention and pay tribute to the Thiaroye massacre in a speech.

Legendary Reggae vocalist Cornell Campbell is to release a new E.P entitled 'Time For Peace', to mark the 52nd Anniversary of Martin Luthur King Jr's assassination, 4th April 2021. Taking its title from Cornell's lyrical addition to Black Man In A White World, "I want you to understand, I need, I need everyone to hang on, in love, peace and unity", the new 12" EP features bold interpretations of two of soul music's most iconic songs about race, identity and injustice. Both Michael Kiwanuka's 'Black Man In A White World' and 'Outernational Blues' - a take on the Marvin Gaye classic 'Inner City Blues' - evoke the sentiment and spirit of MLK's peaceful protest, and act as a reminder as to the importance of grace, pride and dignity in difficult times. Capturing a unique combination of vocal vulnerability and wisdom, this is music that demands deep listening. Cornell Campbell's voice at 75, carries a new found poignancy and depth of emotion; one which feels perfectly suited to delivering an elders perspective on such emotionally loaded topics. The E.P was recorded and produced over four countries, with the music for all tracks having been recorded in London, England at The Total Refreshment Centre, before being voiced in Kingston Jamaica at Anchor Studios. Additional backing vocals were added at Heritage Recording Co in Burbank, California, before the track was finally mixed and produced by Sergio Lopez, in Andalucia, Spain. 'Time For Peace' is the first in a series of four releases from icons of reggae, including 'Time For Love' by Tabby Diamond, of The Mighty Diamonds, 'Time For Change' by Fred Locks and 'Time For Unity' by Big Youth; all to be released on limited 12" vinyl. All music recorded by Kristian Craig Robinson at Total Refreshment Studios, London. Vocals recorded by Delroy 'Phatta' Pottinger at Anchor Studios, Kingston, Jamaica. Welcome to Bm-18 the biokinetic realm created by Dana Kuehr, a lush audio environment where organic and synthesized matter coalesce. As we float disembodied above this verdant pixel plain, Dana offers us shifting repetitions and sequences in disguise, each track a landscape within a world created in the utmost detail, from the minute bleeps and chirps to the enveloping and bumping bouncy basslines. Flickering drums explode like dandelion seeds in a breeze, searching for a place to lay, grow, and flourish. Sounds are captured (fingers tapping, rain patter, Belgian parakeets released from a '70s zoo, vocal oohs and ahhs) and hybridized with patterns, samples, and musical manoeuvres (jungle breaks, west coast hip hop, layered drums, IDM crunch and twinkle, reverb, delay, '90s R&B, underwater video game soundscapes). As in any imaginary sphere, there are characters who exchange and converse: rivers, coasts, clouds, lakes, echoes of dolphins, and peaceful frogs. Amidst their complex chatter, the sounds of Bm-18 extend an invitation to dance, to feel our bodies alive and present, to acknowledge the impulse of movement and the pulsing heartbeats of each track. An ode to the Taoist consideration that all creatures live together in mystic unity, co-evolving and feeding each other, Dana brings together cloud ethereal with earth pounding, and like an orca's tail upon a restless sea, it slaps!!! All tracks written and produced by Dana Kuehr between April 2020 and November 2021 in Brussels, and mixed by Dan Piu at Checkpoint Charly Studio in Zurich between November 2021 and March 2022. Mastered and cut by Stefan Betke at Scape in Berlin. Original artworks by Camiflage and text by Ailsa Cavers. A1 was first digitally released on Ojoo Music. Originally released in 1988 ‘Hot Rock’ was the final single from Pennsylvanian based roots reggae band House Of Assembly. The band, comprising main songwriter Norman Bailey, Marc Campbell, Claver Campbell and Louis Putman, grew up in the Water House area of Kingston, Jamaica bonding over their shared love of Dub & Reggae. The 4 members moved to Pennsylvania in the US in the early 80’s and released one album ‘Confusion’ on the local Meadowlark label, touring throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and becoming stalwarts of the Pennsylvanian roots scene.

The band started their own Concrete label in 1988 releasing ‘Hot Rock’ complete with a Dub Version possessing a potent combination of punchy 707 drum programming, killer rolling bassline, stripped back lead guitar and a rising synth line. For the official reissue there’s an added ‘Rockapella’ version not found on the original 12” and a new full sleeve jacket designed by Bradley Pinkerton.

sot is old English for soot. This black powdery substance is everywhere in LDY OSC's debut album, blocking out the air and making all natural vibrations sound gritty and rough. The album itself is like a dub version of the Chernobyl meltdown. In some parts you get a real sense of how much air there is to breathe once humans are out of the picture, with unrestrained melodies and rhythms frolicking in the vastness of LDY OSC's post-apocalyptic soundscape. In other parts the effects of extreme radiation are made acutely apparent. Synths, guitar pedals and trapped echoes of human voices seem to be melting and morphing together in ungodly ways, casting uncanny shapes on the walls of the failed reactor. It's a thing of horrifying beauty. Alyssa Barrera Auvinen got her artist-name LDY OSC while earning a Bachelor's degree in Music and Sound Engineering in New York. She would treat oscillators as patients and living creatures through her synth DIY projects. This is made very obvious in sot: living oscillators used for industrial music which are then burned to organic matter and turned to dub. After releasing her first EP on The Bunker New York, LDY OSC couldn't have found a more accommodating nest than Kontra-Musik for her unforgettable haunting debut album. Toronto-based producer and DJ Ciel is renowned for a style of dancefloor material that’s as heady as it is visceral. Written during her emergence from an uncharacteristic bout of writers’ block, the three original tracks of Orlando chart a return to the musical self, spurred along by a cinephile’s embrace of film, a love of classic literature, and a curiosity for the oddest corners of popular culture. “scenes From A Marriage” might share a name with the episodic series, but is rather a nuanced critique of the modern rite of union, moving through structured chapters, and mirroring the un-static nature of longtime love.Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s radical novel, and its superphysical protagonist, “Orlando” considers the cult literary figure who lived from the renaissance to the modern age, and embodies both sides of the sex binary. The thrown sounds and aural illusions of “EL Califa” create the effect of a beckoning, beguiling psychedelic experience. To complete the EP, Ali Berger, Ciel’s recent collaborator on the Jacktone Records’ release Damn Skippy! repurposes the mind-bending flourishes of “El Califa” into a noodly and spacious deep house production, replete with pillowy, gauzy pads.

Spirited and resonant, combining soulful female vocals with organic percussion and sweeping melodies throughout, ‘Now I See’ is a warm and sonorous production set for heartfelt dancefloor moments, while ‘Monday To Sunday’ featuring the impactful vocals of Kamohelo takes a darker path as swirling bass patterns, menacing synths and warped tones merge around the commanding flute for a powerful late night cut.

Drumcode heavyweights Pig&Dan and Victor Ruiz link for their maiden collaborative EP. The project begun in the first quarter of the year when the artists were still touring and was later completed during a series of productive sessions after lockdown Pig&Dan members Dan Duncan and Igor Tchkotoua experiencing a creative synergy with close friend Victor Ruiz that injected some lightness into an otherwise challenging time for the trio of producers. ‘Consciousness’ is driven by a catch low-end riff that’s powerful and funky in equal measures and is a particular favourite of Adam Beyer’s, highlighting the boss’ Drumcode Indoors II and Tomorrowland’s United Through Music stream. ‘Music Takes You’ is a delicious low-end roller driven by a punchy synth workout that drops down into a captivating vocal break made for big moments. ‘Paradise Lost’ is a widescreen melodic gem, comprised of a laser-kissed synth hook, crisp percussion, and a clever low-end chord progression, giving it a classy timeless appeal.
