Four modern, textural, slow-burning instrumental hip hop soundscapes set a distinct mood on this new EP by the venerable Chris DeLuca. Heavy-hitting basslines and slightly ominous hat patterns dominate, leaving these cuts verging on the territory of dark, minimal electro destruction… with a subtle dose of that funky boom bap. One half of Berlin’s Funkstörung, alongside partner Michael Fakesch, De Luca is more than well-versed in the genre, having done a few remixes for high-profile hip hop and experimental acts such as Wu Tang Clan and Bjork. After two years of work, Juan RIOS will release his most personal album. Aware
sounds introspective, it sounds serene, and it sounds magical. Influenced by
Asian culture, Juan has taken a step forward in lo-fi sound through more
elaborate structures and more innovative treatment of samples. The mastering
is in charge of Pablo Martín and the creative direction by Juan Borgognoni.

Fiendsh returns to Cold Busted with Hayashi Reborn, the Bangkok-based producer’s long-awaited follow-up to 2016’s To The End. The title refers to the Hayashi, a group of instrumentalists in Japanese Noh theater. Noh often revolves around themes of life, so with this album the Fiendsh alter-ego takes on the role of the Hayashi of the young beat-producer’s life. The album’s sounds are introspective and rich, combining deep rhythms and warm melodies. Sometimes a hint of Fiendsh’s Thai culture drops in, but mostly the influences are straight from the well of hip-hop, soul, and jazz classics.

With releases already under his belt with Cosmic Bridge and Civil Music, Danny Scrilla returns with a killer 12? released on Rudimentary Records. The release continues Danny’s exploration of cinematic bass heavy sounds, with a dynamic astral sound. Bismuth rides the slowfast rhythm with intricate beats and a constantly evolving synth melody, on the flip Lone Ranger takes you on an epic journey into deep space.

Featuring stunning art designed by Ana Aleksov, the two double LP’s and two tape cassettes fit together in a diptych. Totalling 73 tracks and a 2.5hrs runtime across four records and two cassettes, this release is eevee’s magnum opus. A body of work that spanned years in the making and represents a keystone in the golden era of lofi hip hop. These beat tapes are living proof of why eevee is known worldwide as the “lofi queen” and will go down in history as one of the most prolific and consistent beatmakers of the lofi era.

Raised in Bath, based in London, Mo Fingaz has been DJing multi-genre sets since the early noughties at clubs & festivals across the UK and Europe. Primarily a project that delivers crisp crunchy boom bap, with heavy doses of jazz and soul, and nods to various other genres throughout. The rhodes-laden ‘Groove Definition’ sets the tone, leading into an interpolation of a classic; one simply called ‘Reggie’. ‘Timecode’ raises up the Sp1200 bit-crush levels some more, whilst tracks like ‘Astro’ and the album closer ’Netta’ take things a little deeper. The lead track ‘Gusto’ delivers skippier half-time jungle funk drums, with live bass played by his father and guitar by J-Felix atop the track. ‘Thirty-Eight’ and ‘1991 Broadway’ harp back to classic jazzhop of the golden era, whilst ‘Booooj’ adds a little dancehall swagger into the equation, before the classy string section of ‘Uptown’ swings into play. This album is unashamedly one to nod your head to, and not one to be sleeping on. ‘Gusto’ is Mo Fingaz first full-length project; a 15 track collection of beats and compositions produced over the past two years. Lo-fi hip hop instrumentals crafted together with love, analog drum machines, samplers, live instruments and dusty old vinyl. After being sat on these beats for a minute, it finally feels like time to let them off into the ether.

Don Karate is the project of Italian multi-instrumentalist Stefano Tamborrino. This is the second album under the project, and its first as a trio.
Alongside Tamborrino on drums and vocals the trio features Pasquale Mirra on vibes and Francesco Ponticelli on bass (all three also play keys). Independently each member of the group is accomplished and acclaimed within the Italian jazz scene, and together they represent more than three decades of experience. Among others they have collaborated with Mop Mop, Oumar Touré, Hamid Drake and Enrico Ravva and have toured Europe and America.
The music is a detour from the jazz world these musicians normally inhabit towards jazz's modern descendants, namely hip-hop and electronic music. Think thick hip-hop grooves and electronic/cinematographic melodies.
Don Karate is the Italian take on the new jazz sound that has been emerging over the past few years between Los Angeles, Chicago and London.

1988 is the follow up to Knxwledge’s official debut album Hud Dreems (Stones Throw, 2015). The same year Hud Dreems was released Knx worked with Kendrick Lamar on To Pimp a Butterfly, earning the producer his first Grammy. A duo with Anderson .Paak called NxWorries was formed around the same time. Their single “Suede” became a viral hit, vaulting the singer to R&B stardom, and their album Yes Lawd! followed through on that song’s immense promise. Knx and Paak have quietly continued collaborating, and some of the new work is heard on 1988.

A prolific artist in the extreme sense of the word, Knxwledge continues to redefine instrumental hip-hop almost in real-time with a stream of beat tapes numbering in the hundreds on Bandcamp, and video remixes on Instagram.

This prolific output began early. 1988 takes its name from the fact that much of the new record was created that very year, when Knx was an infant. As the story is told, little baby Knx was left alone by his mother for just a few moments and crawled to a family member’s vintage Sp–12 sampler. When his mother returned he had already produced his first beats and nearly mastered the machine. These tracks, all produced before nap time while rocking a Nike diaper, were stored over the years on floppy discs, then brought to his studio in recent months where they were finished up, mixed, and mastered.

Akari Raheem is the brainchild of Lito Akari and F. Raheem. Their album ‘Lost in Variations‘ is a collaboration between two old friends equipped with keys, synths, beats and one restriction: no samples.

Everything is connected: using piano as the primary instrument, the album’s recurring themes, interpretations and variations are reminiscent of library and soundtrack music, incorporating the duo’s own touch of the current zeitgeist in jazz and electronic beats.

Lito Akari, with roots in Istanbul and Berlin, where he is part of the Block Opera artist collective, has been successfully releasing beat-based instrumental music for some years now, starting with the vinyl release of his debut album ‘Time Is Only Space And Sky Is Not The Limit‘.
